The Benefits Of Blogging

A year ago, when anyone asked me what blogs were for, I would tell them that blogs were electronic journals where people would write about their daily lives in, just like a diary, except that well, it was for everyone to read. But now, blogs, or weblogs, are that and so much more!

According to Nardi, Schiano & Gumbrecht (2004), blogging is a Web-based form of communication that is rapidly becoming mainstream. And rapidly becoming mainstream, it is. Technorati (2008) states that since the year 2002, they have recorded a total of 133 million blogs created, and 1.7 million blogs are created in the last seven days. And these numbers even, are rapidly increasing.

A quick journey into the size of the Blogosphere.

According to Sullivan (2002), 'blogging is changing the media world'. I couldn't have agreed further. A reason why blogging is so popular is because blogs combine the immediacy of up-to-the-minute posts, latest first, with a strong sense of the author's personality, passions, and point of view (Nardi, Schiano & Gumbrecht, 2004). Due to this, whatever that is posted in the blog can be quickly accessible by the general public. Also, according to Roshan Jha on Associated Content, people blog because they want to be heard and also to express themselves. Furthermore, he states that blogging brings benefits such as advertising that can earn a person money technically for free.

As a blogger myself, I agree with him. Wouldn't you?
